Leidsche Rijn

Atmosphere and specifics

  • Leidsche Rijn is the biggest new housing district in the Netherlands and is located in the neighbourhoods Leidsche Rijn and Vleuten-De Meern.
  • The Leidse Rijn or Leidsche Rijn and/or also Leidse Vaart in the old days, is a canal that was dug out since the Middle Ages to replace the winding course of the Oude Rijn. The canal is 13 kms long.
  • Archeologic findings, old lanes and ditches, trees and monumental farms, were included in the building plans. Therefore way, each neighbourhood has its own character and atmosphere.
  • Leidsche Rijn is easily accessible. It is located centrally in the Netherlands and close to the city centre of Utrecht.
  • Until 2025, ca. 33,000 houses will be built in Leidsche Rijn ca 33,000 for about 100,000 people. In addition, 40,000 will be working here.
  • Cinemec, the cinema and congress centre, opened in 2015.
  • Large shopping centre in the centre of Leidsche Rijn called "Leidsche Rijn Centrum" (2018). Shops are supplied underground.
