Ondiep

Atmosphere and specifics

  • The construction Ondiep started on a small scale in 1915.
  • It is a typical working-class neighbourhood, situated between the Vecht and Amsterdamsestraatweg, in city district Noordwest.
  • The last years, the structure of the neighbourhood has changed and more young working people and students now live here.
  • By far the most houses in Ondiep (82%) are owned by housing corporations. Ondiep has lots of family homes.
  • Ondiep is subdivided into smaller neighbourhoods with their own specific character, type of building and atmosphere": - Het Kleine Wijk (1915-1920, replaced by new houses around 2010) - Witte Wijk (1920-1930) - Bomenbuurt - Fruitkwartier.
  • Mid 2005, large-scale restructuring started with renovation, demolition and new houses. This development is on-going and gives the neighbourhood a huge boost.
  • The neighbourhood has its own football club D.H.S.C.(DOS Holland Stichtse Boys Combinatie) and is May 2012, conference centre De Speler opened its doors, including a restaurant of the Salvation Army+K11.
