Tuinwijk is in 1900 ontstaan. De wijk bestaat uit beneden- en bovenwoningen en alsmede eenpersoonswoningen.
De woonwijk word gekenmerkt door een grote bebouwing in de Amsterdamse schoolstijl. Het bouwjaar varieert van 1921 tot 1940.
In de wijk zijn alle voorzieningen aanwezig. Variërend van winkels voor de dagelijkse boodschappen tot diverse restaurants en cafés.
Goede ligging tegen het centrum van Utrecht en het centraal in de wijk gelegen Griftpark.
Naast de Wijk ligt de staatkerkenbuurt, hier is in 2012 een nieuwe binnenstedelijke woonwijk gerealiseerd. Mogelijk zal aan de grens van deze wijk nieuwe herontwikkeling plaats vinden.
